STATUS: LANDED

So I’ve finally arrived at my destination: Overland Park, KS.

I am currently unemployed and, to be honest, it kind of feels good. I’ve got a short beard grown out (which hasn’t happened in two years!), and I can finally sleep during God’s designated sleeping schedule for us.

Yes, my time as an overnight security guard for SBU has ended, and I am enjoying some freedom at the moment. This freedom will hopefully (and sadly) be relatively short-lived, however. I still need to make money, so I am currently spending my free days (which happens to be all of them...) looking for a job. The most common phrase that I’ve heard so far is, “Well, to be really honest with you we’re completely full right now, but give me a call in a couple or three weeks.” That’s understandable. The economy is not so well right now and everybody needs a job. I’m just waiting for the one who says to me, “When can you start?” Until then, I’ll keep trudging on...

I still have yet to learn my way around here also. I spent most of my day today driving. I try to find places as much as possible without looking them up, so as to learn quickly from my mistakes. The down sides to this are that there are many many mistakes, and of course that those mistakes cost me gas money and time, which means my wallet suffers, without having anything to reimburse it with, and I don’t get as much done in a day.

Other than that, though, it’s been good so far. Being in a new place is always exciting. It’s like an adventure: so many new things and places to explore; new scenery. I like it.

Kansas City = the most confusing city ever.

Absolutely nothing makes sense, as far as street connectivity, compass directions, and all that jazz.

"Hey guys, let's build a city, but instead of a grid, let's make it in circles AND grids! Let's use crappy materials so there's perpetual construction happening at all times! THEN, we can block off random streets for years! yeah!"

Good luck learning your way around man. And w/the job hunt.

Carbon Leaf rocked. I highly recommend attending their free concert July 3. The lead singer does a great, great job of not being boring and just standing there singing.

Word.
